VCU Art Alumi Show

I’m packing my bags and heading to San Francisco this week — for the Botanicals Exhibition at the Bedford Gallery!! Meanwhile, there’s another exciting opening much closer to home. VCU School of the Arts has acquired a new building over the last year, appropriately named, The Depot. The Depot is a flexible and collaborative space including a student gallery. I will be apart of their first alumni art exhibition “The Golden Standard: Graduates of the Last Decade” that will run from July 10 – August 30th. The exhibit will featured artwork from 25 VCU Arts Alumni in a variety of mediums that all graduated between 2004-2014. There is a soft opening on Friday July 10th from 5-7, but the much larger reception will occur Friday August 28th!! Mark your calendar!!

I will four pieces in this show — including my hay collar sculpture and 3 photographic prints. Ironically enough, I was chosen my freshman year to be apart of a group sculpture exhibit (10 of us – out of the entire foundation program), but I was too stubborn to recreate the piece for the show in the Summer of 2005. This feels like a little bit of redemption. 10 years later…I have come full circle — and it feels good.

I’m really excited to finally get the ball rolling and have an online store for my artwork!! It’s about time. You know it’s one of my favorite activities — I love to shop!!! I hope you enjoy it, too! 🙂  I will be “stocking” the store this Summer with prints from my latest show, Cultivate. You will see a handful of my most recent photographs are now on view and on SALE!! I have printed all of the photographs by hand, in the darkroom, and I only have a few editions of each print (in some cases — there is only ONE.)  They are all custom matted to fit standard frames. I will have FRAMED pieces for sale by the end of the Summer.

If you’re looking for a hand-made, beautifully crafted purchase or gift then please — take a look HERE!!!

Show Now

I cannot even believe I am writing these words… after my solo show in January, I made a point to search for exhibitions that fit the content of my work. After all, everything is framed and ready to be displayed. I have been following the Bedford Gallery for the past years since The Jealous Curator (one of my favorite art blogs!) curated a show there last year. I split my work into groups, and began to apply to several galleries.

A couple weeks ago I got the email from the Bedford Gallery accepting one of my photographs into their Botanica: All Things Plant Life exhibition!! I was floored. The Bedford Gallery is located outside of Oakland, California — in the San Francisco Bay Area — 3,000 miles away. I don’t think I could’ve submitted to a place in the US that’s further away. Ha!!!

I am BEYOND excited to have my work in a gallery on the west coast. And!!! The opening is in July — and I’m not teaching — so, I’m packing my bags and going to CALIFORNIA!!!

If you missed my solo exhibition in January, then keep an eye out for a few of my photography pieces around Richmond!! I’m really excited to be in TWO shows this month. First, as a high school fine arts teacher, I am apart of the Central Regional Virginia Art Education Association — we have an exhibition opening Friday, May 16th from 6-9pm at Crossroads Gallery. The show will run from May 15- July 6th. All of the pieces in this exhibition are created by art educators from around the Tri-cities area! Swing by and grab a Krispie Kreme donut, visit the gallery, or stop by Southern Seasons for dinner — it’s all right there on Staples Mill!

Perhaps even more exciting — I will be apart of this year’s Radius 250 Juried Exhibition at Artspace Gallery. This annual exhibit is open to any artist working within 250 miles of Artspace. This is my THIRD year applying to the show, and I am so excited to have my work selected along with so many great artists!! Opening night is Friday May 22nd from 7-10pm. The show will run from May 22 – July 19th.

Radius 250Also….if you happen to see receive a postcard in the mail, or see a write up in the paper — I was selected to have my work on the front cover of the printed material!!! Keep an eye out!!
